Zoe, Browns, and all that Jazz

Tuesday /Wednesday 30/31 July
July 30, am, a fine day for ducks
Very heavy rain early on Tuesday morning and intermittently through the day was no real problem. In fact, using the “add sugar” principle, or in this case a detergent spray and a deck brush, the clean rain was put to good use on the topsides of Middlewatch. We had another lovely visit from Nadine and Molly, and then strolled the 20-minute riverside path to the Little Ship Club to meet up with former colleague Zoe (in from California) for drinks and a fine supper of duck confit.

Catching up with Zoe at The Little Ship Club
There was  weekend of travel chaos ahead for The Prudential Cycle Runs, and this coincided with our plans for Gill’s birthday. Basically, the whole Dock (and all of Wapping) were to be shut off by road closures for most of the daylight weekend, and we had planned special events with Hayley and Nadine for both Saturday and Sunday.

Nobody, but nobody, could tell us exactly whether we could even get taxis, and eventually we decided that the only way to get around was by walking and Underground. All of these deliberations took up more than a couple of hours on Wednesday afternoon.

We love London
In the early evening we set off to check out the route, and on the way we dropped into Brown’s Hotel in Albemarle Street for a nostalgic pot of tea.(Last time we were there was with Karen & Jason, just before Alice was born)

The main event of the day, however, was a toe-tapping dinner and gig at The Dover Street Jazz Club—very enjoyable indeed. SWWYGI!

And all that jazz at Dover Street
