A permanent resident at Aeolus |
Tuesday 2 August. Brilliant sunshine from early morning allowed a bit of mopping down in the dew, laundry. tidying up, and some forward route-planning.

Enthusiastic evening canal boaters |
 |
Ours was not the largest boat |
In between times (most of the time, truth to tell) we watched in admiration as no less than three 50ft yachts entered and berthed, turning around in a pool which was onle a few feet wider than the boats were long. (One of these, we learned from a google look-up, was currently on the market for USD 975K.)

Bike-stop |
As we waited for Hayley’s arrival, we had a great afternoon out in town –shopping, sightseeing and doing a mini-tour of pavement– and canal-side cafes, watching all shapes and sizes of both people and boats, especially the “dinner cruisers” which glided deftly through small bridges with only inches to spare.

Hayley's first taste of Amsterdam |
Hayley landed on time, and caught the inter-city from Schiphol, which came in at the other side of the station, so it took a couple of texts to get to the fond welcomes, and the first “taste of the town” at another canalside table. This was conveniently situated near the by-now-familiar “RLD”, which was as gob-smacking as ever (and which led to a very interesting discussion, later, on board, over a few drinks). Somewhat worn-out by our perambulations, we embarked on the new experience of taking a “bicycle taxi” to a regular taxi station, and from there it was a quick whizz “home” via the tunnel under the river......
